Attention 5th graders!

It’s hard to believe our 5th graders will be with us at LAS for just a few more months!

The yearbook is your time to shine!  Did we mention that all 5th graders receive one free yearbook, compliments of the PTA!

Each 5th grader received the following 2 forms

  • Tell Us About Yourself  – this form should be completed by each 5th grader.  The information will be placed under their yearbook picture
  • Yearbook boosters – this optional form is for parents (siblings, grandparents, anyone) who wants to give a shout out to their 5th grader! There is a fee and there are limits.

See the forms for all the details!

Completed forms are due by Tuesday, February 20th.

Six Flags Read to Succeed!

Welcome to Six Flags® Read to Succeed!

LAS is participating in an exciting program that encourages students in grades K through 6 to read for fun. Read to Succeed is a free program sponsored by Six Flags Theme Parks. Every student who completes six hours of recreational reading before the school’s deadline noted below is eligible for a free admission ticket valid at one participating Six Flags Theme Park. Students will develop a greater appreciation for books when they see that you think reading is important too. You are sure to have fun as you investigate the world of reading together!

Here’s what you need to know:

  •  Only students in grades K through 6 are eligible to participate.
  •  Review the attached reading log. Your child should use this sheet to record what and how long he/she reads
  •  Your child must complete 6 hours, or 360 minutes, of recreational reading.
  •  Please initial each entry and then sign the reading log to verify that the 6 hours of reading has been completed.
  •  Your child can read books, magazines, newspapers, or comic books (digital or hard copy). Reading for homework or a class assignment does NOT count
  •  Students can read silently, aloud, or with an adult—you can read to your child, or your child can read to you.
  •  Remind your child to return the reading log to his/her teacher by the date on the log. Your child’s school will submit your child’s information and minutes read.
  •  The ticket is valid for admission to one Six Flags theme park on select dates only during the 2016 season. Park name and valid dates will be printed on the tickets
  •  Tickets are valid for students in grades K-6 only and are not valid for anyone over the age of 13. No exceptions.
  •  Each ticket is valid for one free admission only.
  • Tickets are not for resale and are nontransferable.
  •  They cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or damaged.
  •  Late entries will NOT be accepted.

Happy Reading!

Completed logs must be returned to your teacher by February 23.  Please contact Tricia Pomponio, triciappta@gmail.com with any questions.

Welcome to AmazonSmile

Do you love Amazon as much as we do? It’s our go to stop for just about anything and everything.  This year  the PTA has partnered with AmazonSmile to help raise money for our school.

AmazonSmile is a website operated by Amazon with the same products, prices and shopping features ! as Amazon.com. The difference is when you shop at AmazonSmile, you are supporting our school.  The AmazonSmile Foundation will donate 0.5% of all eligible products right back to us!  Click on the below link!

Become a LAS PTA Member!

The PTA is the oldest and largest child advocacy association in America. Today’s PTA is comprised of nearly 5 million parents, teachers, grandparents, caregivers, foster parents and other caring adults who share a commitment to improving the education, health, and safety of all children. We speak with one voice for every child.

Today, the issues that affect our children extend beyond the walls of LAS. The PTA’s nationwide network provides the forum and tools to collectively influence the decisions that affect children throughout their districts, within their states and across the nation. This mission is unique to the PTA.

Here at LAS, the PTA funds many of the enjoyable activities and educational programs our children look forward to each year. Please join and let’s work together to reach our goal of 100% membership.

Your $10.00 membership fee, per parent, enables us to jump-start funding so we can continue to assist our children’s school with providing programs and improvements that help make LAS so special.

Parents can become a member of the PTA by printing  out the form ptamember2017  and sending it back to LAS or join online.

To join online go to  www.pt-avenue.com/join/  and follow the prompts. Note the PTA/PTSA name for our school is ‘Livingston Avenue School Cranford PTA’.  (There is a second Livingston School in New Jersey so do not select this school in error.)  Payment is made with a credit card.

If you have any questions,  please reach out to the  PTA Membership Chairperson Amy Kowalski at amykowalski9@gmail.com

Thank you!
